The bill that I'm sponsoring, is a plan to create an elder death review team to investigate suspicious deaths whether they're in nursing homes or in the home. That idea and need came, actually, from Dr. Dean Sienko, who as our medical examiner here in Ingham County, felt that there was a need for us to do as we do with child death review teams, to establish an elder death review team. They would be created optionally at the county level, and they would empower our county medical examiners to establish protocols to be used in investigations, and to bring together a cross-disciplinary team to look at deaths of elderly people. Our plan would hopefully put an end to some of that.
