LANSING – In her role as a Co-Chair of the Local Government Caucus, State Representative Joan Bauer (D-Lansing) will be co-sponsoring a property tax workshop in the Mackinac Room of the Anderson House Office Building on Thursday.
"Communities across the state have and will be affected by changing property taxes," Bauer said. "This workshop will give our residents the opportunity hear up-to-date information on this topic and, hopefully, better understand this complex issue."
The workshop is geared towards helping legislators, local elected officials, and interested residents learn more about the property tax crisis in the state of Michigan. Thursday's property tax workshop is hosted by the bi-partisan Local Government Caucus, which includes both Bauer and State Representative Paul Opsommer (R-Dewitt) from Mid-Michigan.
Featured speakers for the event include David L. Sjouist, Professor and Director of the Fiscal and Economic Research Center; Dan Sweat, Distinguished Chair in Educational and Community Policy from Georgia State University; Michigan State University Professors Eric Scorsone and Mark Skidmore; Genesee County Treasurer Dan Kildee; Gary Sands from Wayne State University and Arnold Weinfield, Director of Public Policy and Federal Affairs at the Michigan Municipal League.
The event will be held on Thursday, March 12, from 9 a.m. to noon in the Mackinac Room, located on the 5th floor of the Anderson House Office Building. The event is free and open to the public.
