LANSING - State Representative Joan Bauer (D-Lansing) on Monday hosted a reception at the State Capitol to recognize the achievements of the Lansing-area's top 10 high school graduates.
"These students are the future leaders of our communities," Bauer said. "As we work to make Michigan a leader in the 21st century global economy, these graduates will be among those who help get us there. It was my pleasure to congratulate these graduates on their academic achievements."
The turn-out for this year's reception more than doubled last year's. Family and friends of the students, as well as school principals and several district administrators were present to honor the achievements made by the top-tier students. The graduates were made up of students from Lansing Eastern, Everett, Sexton, Lansing Catholic and Lansing Christian high schools.
"It is an outstanding accomplishment to be among the top 10 of your peers," Bauer said. "These students represent the best and the brightest in our area and I am confident that they will continue to succeed and help move our state forward. If these graduates continue to perform as well as they have, I doubt there is anything they can not accomplish."
