LANSING – State Representative Joan Bauer (D-Lansing), Chair of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Higher Education, will hold higher education budget hearings next week at Grand Valley State University and the State Capitol.
"Higher education is critical to Michigan's economic recovery," Bauer said. "In these tough economic times, it is important that we understand the needs and challenges facing our students and universities."
Throughout this year, representatives from Michigan's colleges and universities as well as from members of the public have spoken at the Higher Education budget hearings. The House Higher Education Appropriations Subcommittee will use the testimony to make its budget recommendations for higher education for the 2009-10 budget.
Bauer announced that the Higher Education Subcommittee will be meeting as follows:
Monday, March 9, at 10 a.m. at EberhardCenter, GrandValleyStateUniversity in Grand Rapids. Testimony will be heard from Grand Valley State University, Michigan Tech University, University of Michigan-Dearborn and University of Michigan-Flint.
Tuesday, March 10, at 9 a.m. in Room 352 of the State Capitol in Lansing. Testimony will be heard from Association of Independent Colleges and Universities, Lake Superior State University, and Northern Michigan University.
