LANSING – State Representative Joan Bauer (D-Lansing), Chair of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Higher Education, will hold a higher education budget hearing tomorrow at Eastern Michigan University.
"Having these budget hearings on college campuses gives our committee the opportunity to see the students that are affected by these decisions," Bauer said. "Not only do these hearings give us the chance to see a number of campuses across the state, but I get the opportunity to talk to the students and hear their opinions on these issues. Talking to them gives me a better understanding of what our students and teachers need."
The committee will hear from representatives from Michigan's colleges and universities as well as from members of the public who wish to testify. Speaking at tomorrow's hearing will be representatives from Central Michigan University, Eastern Michigan University and Oakland University. The House Higher Education Appropriations Committee will use the testimony to make its budget recommendations for higher education for the 2009-10 budget.
